Our new name honours Roger’s enduring commitment to early learning – a legacy now carried forward by his wider family, across generations.
More than good ideas
Providing strong foundations for learning means investing earlier, more holistically, and more systematically, so that every child can learn and thrive, supported by systems that enable them to reach their full potential.
Meaningful change takes more than good ideas. It takes partnership, evidence, innovative approaches, and shared learning. This is why we firmly believe in the importance of locally led initiatives. When communities lead, change becomes tangible – and ownership creates hope for the future.
Working with governments, local organisations, and fellow funders, we are aligning efforts to improve quality and reduce fragmentation across education systems, so that children experience stronger and more continuous learning pathways. This reflects our growing emphasis on collaboration, shared accountability and long-term system strengthening.
We remain committed to Southern African and Switzerland
As before, we will continue working seven countries, building on previous successes. In Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe, we work to enable systemic change, reinforcing progress made in early education and helping to unlock additional funding.
In Switzerland, we focus is to support movement and programmes that strengthen body and mind, are embedded in everyday environments, and are trusted by parents and caregivers.
Building on our legacy
This new cycle brings a meaningful expansion: we now support the full foundational learning journey over an extended age range from the age of 3 years and into primary school. We will focus on four complementary pillars:
Our vision by 2030
Our aim is to help 50% more children access education and ensure 25% more children can read for meaning by age 10. We will also advance forward-thinking philanthropy, meaning that we will dedicate resources to explore and catalyse innovation across the early learning system, expanding our focus beyond a single programme. In addition, we aim to help unlock USD 1 billion for the early and foundational learning sector.
Achieving this requires a unified approach to system strengthening – and we warmly invite partners, governments, and fellow funders to join us in aligning efforts that drive lasting change for children and stronger outcomes for communities.
Together, we can ensure every child has the foundation they need to learn, grow and thrive.
